Happy Weekend to you all!

Now I have finally a full weekend off for a change!! That is a rarity when you work in Retail!

OMG and what do i do with it, i hear you say…. Well we go down to Norfolk and see the family for the weekend that’s what lol.

My lovely cousin Kirsty wanted to surprise her hubby for his 30th Birthday by having the family round for a nice meal out together and a few drinks after.

So when we was planning this last year i thought I’d best make a dress for the occasion!

I have the loveliness pair of Irregular Choice Shoes that are in such a darling Cherry Print that I wanted to wear them again and have a matching Dress, well the colours anyways!

The Red and Black Cotton poplin was Minerva Crafts and the White with Black Polka Dots is some left overs from ages ago and can’t remember where I had bought it from!

I won The Dragor Pattern from nana’s Instagram back in December and thought I’d go all vintage!

I’ve slightly altered the pattern so that the red band at the waist continued round to the back pretty chuffed hat it matched up so well! Also took off 6″ off the length of the Skirt on the Pattern before cutting into the Fabric. Dam my shortness!!!

I made a toile as I haven’t had the chance to have a play with howtodofashion patterns before and thankfully I only had to shorten the straps by an 1″ and the rest was spot on! I cut out a Size 12 all over and it fits great!

For the first time too I’ve used invisible Gutermann thread and its fantastic no need to switch to different threads for the different colours of fabric!

So here is the lovely on Dorris;

**update due to unforeseen circumstances with the place were was going to have the meal I didn’t wear this dress as we went out for a pub lunch instead which didn’t require my formal dress and shoes but there will  be chances soon to wear it! Keep your eyes peeled!**

So hope you are all having fab weekend!!

Sal xx

When I cam across Straight Stitch Designs Sew The Year Blog post, I thought yeah…I like the idea of planning my makes and keep it reasonable rather than trying to keep to unnecessary pressures!

Sew the Year is all about taking a moment at the start of every month to be intentional about your fabric and pattern choices you hope to tackle that month.  Not only to create garments that you are going to love to but also ones that will actually be worn.  Instead of starting the year with a huge list of makes you want to accomplish and piles of fabric you want to buy you can break it down each month into manageable projects while considering the rest of your life.

Sew the Year is a chance to get inspired, be intentional and have fun. To join in use #sewtheyear on social media so Kimberley can see what everyone else is planning and please come share in the Facebook group.

Right now onto my plans!

I’m currently on with The Dragor Dress by howtodofashion.

This pattern is a fabulous 50’s inspired dress with a full pleated skirt and a well-fitted top.  With my fabric choices i decided i wanted to match my Irregular Choice Cherry print Shoes to totally match the 1950’s look!

I’ve decided to hack the pattern a little and to add a band round the back too as i’m having a Polka Dot top, Red Waistband and Black Skirt. I was quite surprised of how good its turning out already and that i have matched up the front and back perfectly, if i do say so myself 😉

Also my January Project for #Sew My Style – Sew House 7 Toaster Sweater Version 2!

Even though I have purchased both Patterns i felt i swayed more to version 2!

I’ll be using this fab Navy Arrow Knit Sweatshirt that I had bought from Sew  Up North back in November as I’ve been itching to get it used!

Okay now it’s your turn, what are your January Sewing Plans?
