Hi everyone, hope you are keeping well! A new and exciting product from Patterntrace has been released today, its a customisable needle store! I have previously reviewed the Fabric Swatch Book and Tracing Paper which are fabulous products.

Why would I want one of those I hear you ask! I was on the fence too to be honest but it is a really useful in all fairness.

Here is a bit more information about the store from Patterntrace;

This handy portable box has 8 compartments for storing your needles by type and size. It comes with a range of stickers to label each compartment, plus there’s a fuzzy dot which will hold your used needles, keeping them away from the rest of the pack so you know which have been used before and which haven’t.

My thoughts of the customisable needle store

Now, I haven’t realised that I do own a lot of sewing machine needles. However, look at the many packets I have my possesion!

Patterntrace needle store open with assorted packs of sewing machine needles in front of it

Along with the the needle store, enclosed is some labels and a handy card. Which is very useful to know which needles are for which fabric along with enough labels to know which compartment is which.

So I decided to stick that part to the front for future reference.

Front side of Patterntrace needle store which sewing machine needle information of which fabrics to use for which needle.

After labelling it all and putting my needles in, it shows that I am lacking spare overlocker needles So that is on the shopping list next.

Patterntrace Customisable Needle Store with various sewing machine needle packs enclosed within it with labels showing which needles are which

In conclusion, this is a must have for any sewing machine owner to make sure you have enough needles or to point out you don’t have enough. A handy feature is the fuzzy dot which holds your current needle you are using. Perfect for keeping separate from the brand new ones.

Just for my readers, I have a cheeky discount for you. Use the word yorkshiresewist to receive 10% off!

Happy Sewing

The lovely Vicky from Sew Fabulous Fabrics kindly gifted me the Bigger box of fabulous which is a great if you want to make bigger more complex projects and love the idea of creating your own library of modern bag patterns. It includes:

The equivalent of 2 full metres of premium 100% cotton designer fabric, which is more than enough to complete the enclosed project. This might be 4 half metres or a different combination, dependant on the pattern. I received such beautiful cotton prints of the Legendary collection by Art Gallery Fabrics which are just lush!

A quality universal sewing thread that conforms to Oeko-Tex 100 standards, which means it is certified as free from all harmful substances. These thread was lovely to sew with as my Mr Singer can be a bit of snob with threads where he normally likes gutermann threads ?

Selected items of haberdashery to enhance your sewing, which will either be a practical item, such as some machine needles, or a beautiful item like some buttons. I received these cute sewing charms.

An extra item to help you complete your project, such as an item of bag hardware. I received a magentic bag clasp which was ideal.

A modern project or bag pattern by a well known designer. In this box I’ve received the 241 Tote by Noodlehead patterns.

It took me a while to decide on which fabric to use for which part of the bag as they are all so scrumptious!

So with careful placement of the pieces i was quite happy that the big pattern print was in the centre of the bag. I used my tailors chalk to mark the darts.

The instructions booklet was easy to follow and with extra help available online with the links provided in the instructions.

So once I had all the different components of the bag made it soon came together quickly.

I thought putting in a magnetic clasp and inner pocket would be hard work but with the instructions it was a breeze! I used my seam ripper to make the holes for the clasp to go into and used my trusty FriXion pen for marking and soon rubs off.

The scary moment to see if you have sewn the bag correctly when ‘bagging’ out the lining…

Success! so i top stitched around the bag opening!!

No bag is complete without a Kylie and the machine label.

So here she is in all of her glory and she is pretty roomy too!

Thanks again Vicky for letting me review your subscription box. It is really good value and its great if you don’t know where to start with bag making like me!

Happy Sewing!

Hi All! Are you ready for Christmas? Think I’m nearly there…. Just a few pressies to wrap up …Urgghhhh…. (Think i need a Wrapping Elf!) but without further a do here is my 1st post for Wow Fabrics Blogger Network.

Here is a little bit of Wow Fabrics if you haven’t heard of them before:

The fabric company with the ‘WOW’ factor. Based in the heart of the UK, and with an international reach, and using our in house state of the art digital printers a process known as ‘sublimation’, we’re able to offer high quality bespoke printed fabric for all of your fashion needs.

Wow Fabrics has over 50 years combined experience in creating bespoke printed fabrics and textiles, producing items for worldwide licensed brands such as Star Wars, Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story, Pokemon and World of Warcrafts., in addition to working with small and startup businesses.

With competitive prices, extremely fast turnaround times, no minimum order quantity and extensive knowledge around placement printing and products, and a strict quality control in place, we’ll help to give your creations the ‘Wow’ factor.

Also there is many different fabric options to use so at long last no print is just set for one type of fabric!!! Yay!

Now who wouldn’t love a Christmas Hoody so when i was looking through their site i came across this ever so cute yet festive Sloth Print… I am such a sucker for Sloths they are just cute! Plus i had this design printed on the sweathshirt fabric so it would be extra snuggly!

The Stella Hoody by Tilly and The Buttons is a tried and tested pattern and knew i only needed to adjust the sleeve length to shorten it y 1″ and everything was ah ok! I went with a Size 6 for Bust, Size 7 for Waist and to an 8 for the hips, so it graded quite nicely between the sizes. Oh yes not forgetting a Sewing Injury too…. How on earth i managed to do this with a pin is beyond me!!

This fabric was a dream to sew with, and Mr Singer behaved quite nicely even when sewing buttonholes for the Drawstring openings! I always test my stitches on a piece of scrap to make sure the tension is right.

Instead of buying Cotton Tape i just bought a pair of Red laces from Ebay at just over a £1 which really sets the Hoddy off.

Here’s a few pics when hung on the hanger. No garment isn’t complete without a Kylie and the Machine label, this time I’ve gone for ‘You can’t buy this’ as it just suits this to a tee and when people ask me why i get it from i just point to my label hahahah!! Yeah i know… I’m Selfish!! LOL!

I have worn this Hoody quite a lot, I’ve forgotten how many times i have worn it to be honest! It’s been to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate, Christmas Shopping in Leeds and wearing at work too!

Happy Sewing!

Hi All

The lovely Fiona of Patterntrace kindly gifted me a roll of Swedish Tracing Paper in exchange of my honest review

First of all in comes in very sturdy packaging to make sure it doesn’t get ruined in transit. I never thought it would of filled the box but it sure did!

Plus my cat loves it too.

The paper is a soft and translucent Swedish tracing paper which is ideal for dressmakers, durable but easy to see through, excellent for copying the detail from existing patterns. Plus it’s 1m wide and the roll contains 10m of paper!!

It’s made with sustainable abaca fibres this paper is much more durable and tear resistant than regular paper. Plus its eco-friendly properties mean you can compost your leftovers. A very big win in my eyes as i am trying to be more sustainable whilst sewing.

Here is a few more benefits of using this:

It’s easy to write on, use a pencil, chalk or pen, it’s not shiny and slippery like regular tracing paper so much easier to label or transfer pattern markings.

It is fibrous, like a light interfacing, so easier to manipulate than paper.

In my video below, when i have used pins whilst cutting out my fabric. There isn’t big holes or rips in your pattern pieces once you have removed the pins. Unlike, other papers i have used in the past.

You can iron it (with a cool iron – just remember to use the cool setting like the silk setting) to remove creases, so feel free to fold up your patterns to store them so they don’t take too much space, plenty of room when using the Pattern envelopes also.

You can also sew with it to make toiles, or 3d versions of bag patterns etc. No special needle or thread needed, just sew it as you would cotton fabric.

Also, it is that snuggable my Cat Raylan decided to sit on it and guard it!

Plus i have a lovely discount for you all to use at Patterntrace it’s 10% off your order… yes you heard right it isn’t set to any particular item so just in time for Christmas (wink wink) All you have to put in is ‘yorkshiresewist‘ all in lowercase upon checkout where it says coupon code.

Happy Sewing!

Hello fellow Sewists! Hope you’re all well and getting some much deserved sewing squeezed in!

The lovely Fiona of Pattern Trace kindly gifted me these fantastic products for my honest review.

For a start they arrived in such eco friendly packaging that it is recyclable! Which is a winner already in my book.

First of all let’s take a look at the Spool Pod! I just love the flexibility of it!

SpoolPods are a silicone case perfectly designed for storing or transporting your spools of thread, with the matching bobbins too. Clare invented them after getting frustrated trying to find the matching bobbins for her thread when sewing. So she came up with the perfect solution for keeping them together, in an easy to store manner.

If you see my sewing space, I need all the help i can get to keep my Sewing accessories in a nice neat manner away from the kids and the cat ?

You don’t have to use your SpoolPods just for storing thread, it works great for just holding bobbins too. You can fit 6 bobbins per slot, so one SpoolPod will hold 60 bobbins. You can buy 1 at £4.50 or 5 for £19.00.

Now onto the Pattern Envelopes! These are my life savers! No more lost Pattern pieces or instructions! Hurrah!

Study, stylish and with room for you to get creative. No more struggling to get your sewing patterns back into the original envelope or if you are a brute when opening your actual patterns from their envelope and end up destroying the envelope… like me. So you need an alternative to store the pattern ?The envelopes are a little larger than A4 (36.5cm x 23cm / 14.4 in x 9.1in), with a side and top gusset, bags of room for your folded pattern pieces.

There’s room for the pattern artwork! Either cut out and stick on the pattern company’s illustration – or draw your own Notes – there’s always something you need to know for next time.

They come in either:

Pack of 5 – £7

Pack of 10 – £12.50

Pack of 20 – £18.50

Pack of 30 – £24.00

So these are a fab product in my opinion as they do keep my patterns neatly stored away for easy reach next time i make it and the spoolpods are great too especially as you can keep your thread and bobbin safely together. So yes i would have plenty of these in my life, plus they keep my sewing space just a little bit tidier!!

Happy Sewing!

Hi Folks! I was luckily enough to be chosen by Creative Industry to review their Garment Planner Notepad.

Now i am wanting to keep my Sewing Projects planned out properly and this was ideal at doing so!

It has just the right amount of items to tick off plus there is space to add any other items that you may use in your project, i quite like the tick off boxes as then i can make sure i’ve actually got them by ticking them off.

There are 50 tear off sheets to plan out your dressmaking projects and it also doubles up as handy shopping list for your trips to the fabric shop, as i am that eager to get my supplies i always end up forgeting something and then spending more pennies on stuff that i don’t need there and then!

I found the size of these sheets perfect to add to your projects as they are just the right size not to lose and plus they can go back in the pattern envelope ready to see what supplies was used last time and what size was made at a quick glance rather than wasting time figuring it all out again, always a win in my book to make the sewing process quicker 🙂

Just look how cute it looks also when pegged to you final garment?

The Notepads are available to buy here

Happy Sewing!

Happy Friday Y’all!! How have you all been?

If you didn’t know….. I’m a  Minerva Product Tester!

When I received the email with the Products that was on offer for this round, I couldn’t believe that there was Prada fabric!! So I jumped on the chance to give it a whirl as I haven’t really used a crepe before and thought well why not now! I live dangerously!!

It’s such a Fabulous quality Fabric, it’s Self Satin Lined with a slight one way stretch across the width of the Fabric. I’m so glad i went for the Aubergine colourway as it’s just such an autumn colour but really glam at the same time!

Because this fabric has a matt and shiny side, you can use either or a combination of both textures to create dramatic effects. This fabric is PU coated with both anti static and anti click, ensuring the highest quality for special garments. Beautifully soft with a lovely drape, perfect for jackets, dresses, skirts, etc.

I couldn’t stop stroking this stuff when it first arrived as it is just that beautiful! If you have seen my Instagram feed I’ve popped on a short video showing the matt and shiny side.

My review is now live on the Minerva Crafts Blog which shows you what I made out of it!

Happy Reading!!
